Abstract:

This article addresses the Guidance issued in April 2003 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) regarding the Privacy Rule under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and public health. Following a review of this Guidance and the Privacy Rule to which it pertains, this article assesses the implications for public health policy and practice.
