Abstract: Indian nations have long used the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) section 8(a) program to engage in beneficial economic development. Indigenous Peoples in the United States suffer from the worst economic conditions of any specific group of Americans. This article addresses the 8(a) program and the positive results it has produced for Native nations. The authors also address the current political controversy about the 8(a) program and the backlash against it. It is an open question whether this provision will survive in its present format.
